Holistic Health & what you didn’t know:

If you are starting to look into alternative methods for healthcare or just started natural/holistic care and want to know more, we are happy to help you understand this exciting and beneficial way to caring for your body.

What is holistic/natural wellness care?

A holistic approach considers the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—and not just the physical symptoms of whatever condition someone may be facing. This approach recognizes that everything in the body is interconnected and every person is unique and has individual needs.  A holistic approach to wellness gets to the root of the problem and works to restore balance in the body in conjunction with our own immune system.  Holistic medicine represents a philosophy of healthcare that emphasizes the body’s own inherent ability to heal itself.

How is this different from traditional western approach to healthcare?

Holistic care goes to the root of the problem and works to restore balance within the body by assisting the whole person through diet, nutrition, supplementation as well as offering strategies or plans for lowering stress and increasing sleep. The traditional western approach to medicine treats the symptoms of a disease or condition not the person.

Is holistic health a new concept?

No, it is not. Two of the most well documented ancient holistic health traditions are Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda. TCM originated almost 5,000 years ago and has continued to evolve into a complex system of various methods that are still practiced today.  Hippocrates, a physician who lived about 2,400 years ago, formulated one of the main principles of naturopathic medicine, vis mediatrix naturae, which means the healing power of nature.

What type of schooling does a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner need in order to see clients?

There is a lot of schooling and training involved in order to become an FNTP.  First, a certification is required from a 12-month program that is concentrated with 20+ hours of classroom time weekly in the foundations of bio-individual function, holistic nutrition.  FNTP’s graduate with the ability to support the body’s innate ability to heal by addressing the importance of nutrient dense food, lifestyle choices, culinary wellness, coaching, and supplementation.  Further education entails NANP, National Association of Nutrition Professionals.  To be accepted into this elite program the practitioner is required to have 500 hours of working hours in the area of holistic health with direct client care.  Graduation from this program includes board certification in Holistic Nutrition.  And lastly, experience with clients and education in muscle response testing as one method to get to the root cause.

Are supplements and homeopathies safe to take?

The short answer is yes.  However, this question requires a deeper dive.  If you are talking about vitamins and minerals available to you at your local grocery store, the answer would quickly change to no.  Did you know that many of the mainstream vitamin brands out there are created by popular pharmaceutical companies or by major big box food brands? These companies have very little interest in making a bio-available, nutrient-dense products, and instead, create products with poorly absorbed vitamins and minerals. Most of the grocery shelf vitamins are full of dangerous fillers that are carcinogenic and toxic to your health. They also contain soy, gluten, corn, hydrogenated oils, preservatives, GMOs and food dyes, and synthetics. Your body doesn't break down synthetics.
